Tús Maith was launched  in 2005 as a result of a Research Report Tógáil clainne le Gaelainn i nGaeltacht Chorca Dhuibhne  that Caitríona Ní Chathail OCD conducted in association with DIT– it was clear that there was a great need for information, support and advice in the community regarding the Irish language.  It was imperative that the local community understand what Joshua Fishman believed  “that the future of the language  is in the  home”. Intervention was required pre preschool thus the home visiting scheme began.

The Home Visit Scheme has gone from strength to strength supporting those who are raising their families with Irish as well as those who are making efforts with the language.

We conduct Home Visits, Playgroups, Drama, Cooking Classes, Music Classes, Art Classes, Forrest Schools and we also have produced the Orla Uan series as well as some music CD’s to support families on their linguistic journey.

We currently operate in the Kerry Gaeltacht Areas of Corca Dhuibhne and Uíbh Ráthach and hope to expand to all Gaeltacht areas in Munster in the future.
